The Solvent Effects on Grignard Reaction
نویسندگان
چکیده
This research focuses on the effects of water in a solvent on a synthetic process of a Grignard reagent which is common in organic synthesis and triggered an accident in Japan. For the measurement, a hermetically sealed apparatus was prepared to fit a small-scaled reaction calorimeter. The experimental results revealed that the induction period appeared as the water content in the solvent increased. The function of water was considered an inhibitor of the activation of the metal surface.

In this study a novel method has been introduced for the synthesis of 4-hydroxylbutylferrocene by the reaction of lithiated ferrocene with THF in the presence of chlorotrimethylsilane under argon atmosphere. Essential optimization on the reaction solvent, temperature and molar ratio of reactants was conducted and finally 4-hydroxybutylferrocene was obtained in the yield of 78% using this method...

A novel reaction mechanism is presented for an ortho-magnesium carboxylate driven aromatic nucleophilic substitution in naphthoic acids, supported by high-level density functional theory. Results show that the rate-determining aspects involve an R-group transfer from a Grignard reagent Mg-atom to the C1-atom on a naphthalene ring. This transfer is moderated by a molecular corral comprised of tw...

Studying seemingly simple metathesis reactions between ZnCl(2) and (t)BuMgCl has, surprisingly, revealed a much more complex chemistry involving mixed magnesium-zinc compounds that could be regarded as Mg-Zn hybrids. Thus, the reaction of equimolar amounts of ZnCl(2) and (t)BuMgCl reveals the formation of the unprecedented mixed Mg-Zn complex [(THF)(4)Mg(mu-Cl)(2)Zn((t)Bu)(Cl)] (1), as a result...

An investigation of the new synthetic method to synthesize regioregular, head-to-tail coupled poly(3-alkylthiophenes) using magnesium-halogen exchange (Grignard metathesis) called the GRIM method is described. Treatment of 2,5-dibromo-3-alkylthiophenes with a variety of alkyl and vinyl Grignard reagents resulted in two metalated, regiochemical isomers, namely, 2-bromo-3-alkyl-5-bromomagnesiothi...

Despite their enormous synthetic relevance, the use of polar organolithium and Grignard reagents is greatly limited by their requirements of low temperatures in order to control their reactivity as well as the need of dry organic solvents and inert atmosphere protocols to avoid their fast decomposition. Breaking new ground on the applications of these commodity organometallics in synthesis unde...
